Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 17 Monday

Day 118 (June 27, 2011)
Weight: 141lb, gained 1lb

OK, yesterday's weigh-in was after I went to the WC, so I probably didn't really lose then gain 1lb.  I have to stop snacking shortly before I go to bed, I had a last serving of yogurt before I went to sleep.  I have to drink liquids instead to fill my stomach up.  I do feel very energetic this morning.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 17 Sunday

Day 117 (June 26, 2011)
Weight: 140lb, lost 1lb

Yay!  I'm going to have a gluten-free/dairy free celebration meal, so it won't mess with my digestive system, and no asthma.  I may still puff up, but it takes less time to get rid of that if I take my anti-puffing medicine.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 17 Saturday

OK, I did eat more before I went to bed.  I think I underate earlier.  I managed to avoid eating that gluten-free brownie, saving it for tomorrow.

Maybe I should consider this a Cruibilization day.  In the stabilization phase, I'm allowed 1 fruit serving, and one bread.  I'm not going to have bread today though.  I'm mentally ready to move to the next phase, that's for sure!  Maybe after tomorrow's "celebration meal" I'll be ready to finish out in cruise week style. I'd like to shrink a little more, I was thinner before my binge, I definitely did put a little back on.

Argh!  I blew up from the strawberries, and then the cashews really messed with my system.  Bloating from strawberries then I retained water and got breathless and puffy.  I'm never going to run out of almonds again!  I feel like a blimp.  We'll see if I can sleep.

Well, I ate a LOT of food yesterday.  I ended up eating about 2 burger patties w/ketchup (bad), and 3 more large carrots, and a bunch of almonds, all of which weighed at least 1lb.  Then I felt bloated before bed, so ...  It's a PP day today, hopefully that extra air and lb will be eliminated.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 17 Wednesday

Day 113 (June 22, 2011)
Weight: 141.5, lost 1.5lb

Well, I'm .25 above what I was Saturday morning, Cheat day, and 1.25 above what I was Friday morning before my pre-cheat cake slice, not bad!

VickiC asked "Do you think you'll incorporate a regular cheat day into your diet -- or maybe just from time to time as needed? Do you feel like it helped emotionally to be able to indulge for a day?"  Well, my Cruise phase, which should have been 73 days has been going on for 113 days, which is a lot of extra days.  Now, my 3-week vacation, which starts in 10 days, is going to really mess with the scales, so once I return I will be emotionally ready to be strict again and get back down so I can start the Stabilization phase.  Really, if I was doing the Stabilization phase now, I'd be allowed a celebration meal anyway.  However, it was a little scary going so far off the rails.  Although I'm back to a decent number now, I wasn't sure I would be, which did add to the stress.  I guess there wouldn't be stress on a future cheat day, since I now know the pounds won't stick.  Please keep in mind, however, that I was taking a bunch of supplements and doing some other things that help minimize/prevent damage.  I can't say what would have happened if I hadn't been doing that damage control.

The short answer is, I'll probably do a cheat as needed, but try to get to Stabilization ASAP in August so I won't have to worry about "cheating", as I'll be allowed a celebration meal then.

From a high of 146 on Sunday, I'm already down 3lb.  I'm still up 2.75lb from where I was on Thursday before I had a bit of cake and a fruit/nut bar on Friday, and 1.75lb from my Cheat Day on Saturday.  I still feel somewhat bloated, so I expect to drop some more.

I'm feeling puffy still, so hopefully there's still room to shrink.  Got Green Tea Extract on the way to work, so I had that with the ALA and garlic before lunch.  On the way home, I was able to pick up a decaf version of the Green Tea Extract, so I had that before dinner.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 16 Sunday

Day 110 (June 19, 2011)
Weight: 146lb, gained 4.5lb!!

Felt draggy all day thanks to that time of the month (year!) I had a walk, struggled to stick to a PP diet.  I also made sure not to have handfuls of nuts, so hopefully I didn't go too high in the calorie department.

Musings on my Cheat Day and other body topics

Tim Ferriss says the day after a cheat day can be scary. To maximize my elimination of these extra calories, and to continue losing the last few lbs, I am adding ice water to my daily intake.  TF says that drinking ice water increases metabolism.  He even takes ice baths, but I can't do that yet.  I had 24oz of ice water as soon as I woke up.  I was very cold and shivering soon after.

I also am having my first real period in almost a year.  Yes, I'm 48, perimenopausal, but it's a bit early to go through full menopause.  So, in a few days I'll have lost the period bloat, my WC visit was very productive this morning, and taking some of TF's supplements will have minimized any damage (we hope!)  I still have to buy the two other supplements he uses, but I don't feel like leaving my neighborhood, and we don't have a health food store, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to pick up the Green Tea Extract and policosanol.

CHEAT DAY!

Tim Ferriss' 4-Hour Body follows a PV style meal plan for 6 days a week, with a cheat meal/day, really a binge on day 7.  He also includes a host of things that help minimize/eliminate any damage.  Here's what happened today:

Day 109 (June 18, 2011)
Weight, 141.5, gained 1lb

First, before breakfast:

Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) ("ALA helps you store the carbohydrates you eat in muscle or in your liver as opposed to in fat"-4HB)

Allicin 6000 Garlic 650mg (has "the ability to inhibit fat regain" 4HB)

Ate a protein breakfast:
1.25 whey powder (I am on dairy, so I had some of the $37 mistake can of whey I bought instead of egg white powder 2 weeks ago) (137.5 cal)

Swim 10min.  I wore a bikini, size small bottoms, and top size 30E(?).  Felt great!

Before lunch:

Before I go to bed, at around 11:30, I still have to do 90sec of air squats, and another dose of ALA and Garlic.  Fascinated to see what the scale shows in a few days!

How telling that I forgot to mention:

1 very thin slice of vanilla birthday cake for a co-worker at 3:45.

I could swear I had something else yesterday after I came home, but I am drawing a blank.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 16 Friday

Day 108 (June 17,2011)
Weight: 140.25, lost .5lb

My "Dukan Diet" week starts on a Wednesday, but I like to compare my weight weekly on Friday, after a whole week at work, etc.  Although I did dip down into the 130's last week, maybe that was an aberration.  If I look at my weight loss Friday to Friday, it is going down, just VERY SLOWLY!  I lost .5 this last week, and .25 the week before.  It's the last 5lb that's the hardest, after all.  I think also doing frequent PPs (3x a week) is not working for me!  I'm going back to 1 or 2 max.  I'm wearing my size 2 capris that I bought a few weeks ago, they are fine.  They're definitely not roomy, however, but that helps to remind me to work my abs, and watch what I eat, and drink lots of water!

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 16 Thursday

Day 107 (June 16, 2011)
Weight: 140.75lb, no change

!!!! I am getting frustrated.  I'm not seeing any results from the PP days in the last few days.  Why?  I am going to have home-made lemonade (w/stevia), to make sure I have enough liquids, which I think I've been short on the last few days.  I also need to make sure I am eating more vegetables on a PV day.   I think having lots of cheese and nuts probably adds to my fat/calorie intake, and may be too high on some days.  Today I'm drinking water/lemonade before I grab a handful of nuts, to make sure I'm not just thirsty.

BTW, did anyone notice I added a clothing goal that I achieved?  I wore some size 2 Old Navy pants on Tuesday.  I tried on some size 2 Banana Republic pants that I got at a thrift shop, and they are still too small.  ON has a bad case of vanity sizing!

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 15 Tuesday

Day 105 (June 14, 2011)

I think this is still air and not being productive in the WC.  I feel what I like to call "bottom-heavy".  Anyway, it's a PP day today.  I am upping my PP days, I'm now on a 1PP/2PV cycle (since last week), hoping this will prompt more weight loss.  I leave for my vacation in 2.5 weeks, I'd like to be solidly in the 130's before I go, the lower the better, as I'll have to return to a cruise-style diet when I return.  My 3-week vacation is always heavy on the food.  I will definitely do at least 1PP a week, but when you go to another country, and can eat food you can't really enjoy at home, it's crazy to avoid it all!  Everything in moderation will be my mantra this year.

ARGH!  I did have two hard boiled eggs not long before bed, with salt. Have to try to stay positive. Started to bloat up at work, after carrots & broccoli. I avoided soda, had some simethicone & StomachEase tea, and felt better.  I walked about 50 blocks, 60-75 minutes.  It was nice and cool, and my legs felt as fresh at the end of the walk as the beginning.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 15 Sunday

Day 103 (June 12, 2011)
Weight: 140.25, gained .5lb

I was still bloated this morning.  I had a hard time sleeping, I was wheezing pretty badly.  I finally took a walk in the afternoon, got out of the house away from the pets, and that gave my lungs a break, plus it was some cardio in addition to my P90X workout later.  The bloating is finally going down, and of course it helps that it's a PP day.  I hope the scale is in the 130s tomorrow morning.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 15 Saturday

I am still shrinking!  Tried on the shorts that I bought on Wednesday that were a little tight, and now they are fine.  The 2s I got I could actually wear if I want, but I'll use the 4s until they are too big.

7:30PM I ate 1/2 a sweet potato, then a can of Stevia cream soda, and suddenly got terribly bloated -- the soda?  the sweet potato?  I was having trouble breathing, so I went out and bought a seltzer, and was able to burp out some of that extra air.  Phew!  I just took 2 charcoal tablets, hopefully that will help too.  I guess I'm not having sweet potatoes for a while.

An hour or so later I ate 2 carrots (and lots of almonds), and I started blowing up again.  I guess only protein for the rest of the evening.  Took two more charcoal pills.

P90X Round 2 Day 9: Plyo

I felt really low energy yesterday, so I had a long walk, 48 blocks, 75 minutes.  Today, I decided to try to double up, do Plyo in the morning, and S&A late afternoon/evening.  I started Plyo, and didn't think I could get very far.  I kept going, and managed to finish, but I did take it easy.  Skipped a few exercises, and went slower than usual, but worked up a sweat.  I think my room was a little too humid and warm, and that's really draining for me.

I was still bloated this morning, but I'm feeling almost normal again this evening.  I didn't have a lot of energy, so I walked 75 min (48 blocks) instead of doing Plyo.  It was hot and muggy, but I put one foot in front of the other, and made it the whole way.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 15 Thursday

Day 100 (June 9, 2011)

Well, I'm bloated from the artichokes and mayo, and I'm sure the two cans of stevia soda could also be responsible.  The artichokes are all eaten now, and I'm not going to get any more this year. 

This afternoon the mercury hits almost 100, so I left the house early and got off the subway early and walked 30 blocks to work, it took 35 minutes.

It's evening, and my system is definitely expelling all that air, hopefully enough so that I'm at a reasonable weight tomorrow morning.

P90X Round 2 Days 6-8: Chest & Back

I walked over an hour on Kenpo day, so I skipped the workout.  I took a rest day yesterday.

Today was Chest & Back.  I had an all-time high for assisted pullups, 85.  I couldn't do any unassisted, that bloating didn't help.  Pushups were a total of 133.  Even the apartment was humid, which made workout out a little tough.

Progress in 100 days of Cruise Phase

Here's the latest measurements for Day 1/30/50/100:
Chest (across the boobs wearing a thin sleep/sports bra): 39-37-36.75-35.75
Underbust: 32-31-30.5-30
Waist (where my natural waist is, which is above my navel): 31-29.5-28.5-28
Hips (around my hip bones): 41-38.5-38-37

Lost inches: 30 days = 7 inches/50 days = 9.25 inches/100 days  =  12.25
Total weight lost: 18.75 lb, 8.52 kg, 1.34 stone.  Lost bodyweight: 11.87%.

I am continuing to do two PP a week.  In March and April I did PP 4x each (1x a week).  In May, I did PP 6x, I had one mini-attack phase of 2, and then I did one week with 2 PP.  So far in June I've done 3 PP, and the scale is moving down faster.  Annoying that I could have been done by now if only I'd done 2 PP a week. 

Bra size:  I am now wearing my 30DD bra that I bought, as my 32DDD/E bras are too big.  I can still wear them on the tightest hook, but the cups are a little big now. 

I tried on my test jeans which on Day 50 I was able to slip on, but couldn't button past the first button.  The other day I was able to button them, and no muffin top!   OK, they're not stretch, so I need to lose another few lbs before they're "comfortable", but I can see progress all the time.

I have a pair of size 2 Target Fit 4 capris that are waiting in the wings.  They fit, but they'll be perfect in another lb or two.  All my other capris fit or are too big.  I bought Size 4 ON capris 2 weeks ago, and shrank them in the wash, but they're almost baggy now!  I had to go to ON yesterday and buy the 2s.  I also got a variety of shorts in 2 and 4.  One pair fits now, others will soon.

See, yoyoing.  Today was a PP day.  I walked 15 to work, another 15min and back at lunch, then 50 blocks after work, I think that took over an hour.  No P90X today, I think I did cardio plenty.

This last week has been great for weight loss, I lost a total of 2lb!

Saturday's Shoulders & Arms went very well.  Kept up with where I was last time I did the exercises.
Sunday I did some of Yoga X.  Did about 1/2 an hour.  Both days I had a long walk in the early afternoon, 20 blocks and back.

Today I walked 20min to work, then at lunch a 15min walk and the same back to the office.  After work I walked over an hour, 46 blocks.

To get my elder DD to do her workout, I did a mishmash of L&B and ARX from memory while she did Core Rhythms.  I did 2 unassisted close-grip pullups and 1 unassisted chinup.  I got a little past half way, and it was 10PM, and I decided it was time to stop.  I got 175 reps of ARX done.  Maybe I'll do the rest tomorrow morning.

Dare I hope I will stay below 140?  I'm giving myself several more days before it's official.  Another PP day tomorrow.

Doing Dukan while doing P90X

Someone asked me the following:

"Do you think your weight loss would have been significantly less, had you not exercised as much?"

No, I don't think it would have been less.  I actually wasn't doing PP 2 times a week, as I should have earlier on, which was a mistake on my part.  I was scared to do PP on my exercise days, and would coordinate the PP day with my rest/stretch day.  I've since discovered I don't have any problems.  I make sure to have some yogurt or almonds before my routine, they have a small amount of carbs.  On days I do PV, I've been having carrots, which is not allowed, but I thought with the extra energy I required, was going to be beneficial.

I am now doing PP 2 days a week, following his 2/7 plan i.e. 2 PP days a week for those who do not need to lose a lot of weight.  My goal was to lose 23lb, and I should have been done after 73 days.  I'm on day 97 of the cruise phase, day 99 total, and I have lost 18lb.   I also fell off the wagon 4-5 times, that didn't help either.

So, I think I might actually have lost the weight a little faster if I'd been doing PP 2 times a week the whole way through, as I seem to be dropping weight faster now.  I was already in pretty good shape having done P90X in the past, so I don't think I've put on a ton of muscle, maybe a pound or two.

I would definitely make sure you are walking a lot.  If you have not been exercising in the past, I'm not sure you should go crazy and start something really challenging, but then again, you can give it a try, and make sure you are eating some proteins w/carbs 90-120 minutes before your workout.  Muscle does cause the metabolism to run faster, so adding muscle can help you in your weightloss goals.  Just remember if you are adding muscle, the scale may slow down or not move.  At that point you should be focusing on the fit of your clothes or use a tape measure to make sure you are shrinking, because you should still be losing fat.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 14 Sunday

Day 96 (June 5, 2011)
Weight: 139.75lb, lost 1lb

I broke 140!  Of course it's going to be a bit of a yoyo this week, I'm sure I'll go back above 140 a few times, but I'm so close!  I'm actually doing the 2/5 routine more now than I was earlier.  I was a bit worried about doing a PP day and doing P90X, but I've found that I'm fine.  I'll do another PP or two this week, then Sunday, because we are going to visit friends, and the food there is hopelessly naughty!  I'll end up having a hamburger there, and ice cream I'm sure.  Or maybe I'll be good, we shall see.

I read through my entire blog.  I'm glad I started it, I think it was very helpful reading about my progress and how I felt after various binges and mistakes.  Reminds me why I don't want to repeat past errors!

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 14 Saturday

Day 95 (June 4, 2011)
Weight: 140.75lb, lost .25lb

Doing a PP day, as my elder DD is doing a 1-day attack phase, and 6 days of PV.  If she gets good results, she may do it longer. She has maybe 10lb to lose.  I can't sell her on longer, this is the best I could get! She's a pescetarian (eats fish only, no poultry or meat).  It's eggs, dairy & fish for her.

Well, it's a few hours before bed, and she's having a tough time with the cravings.  After a lot of drama, she opened a can of tuna, and she's making a tuna salad w/mayo.  Ok, the mayo isn't so good, but at least it's not bread or potatoes.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 14 Friday

Day 94 (June 3, 2011)
Weight: 141lb, lost .25lb

Good, I'm shrinking again.  Hopefully with a good night's sleep it'll go down even more!  I still have an annoying fat pad on my tummy.  I guess there was a lot of fat evenly distributed, and also some visceral fat that's gone now.  I'm definitely shooting for 135lb.  We'll see what the fat pad looks like at that weight.  I was 125 in my early 20s.  My regular weight was 135 in my late 20s, 30s and 40s.  It's still a question how low I can go before it's too low.  My Dukan goal weight is 135lb.  Funny how I was worried that 140 might be too low!

P90X Round 2 Days 1-2: Chest & Back and Plyo

I had a great workout yesterday, kept up with the numbers I had the last two times I did C&B.  Tonight's Plyo, I dragged a little bit. Fridays I'm frequently sleep-deprived.  It's nice doing the exercises when I weigh so much less.

Well, the last 30 days I only did maybe 10 workouts.  HOWEVER, thanks to the Dukan Diet, I still shrank.  I went from 153lb on day 1 to 142lb on day 90.  It sure makes it easier to do pushups and pullups when I'm 11lb lighter!  I've started Round 2.

Ok, I'm feeling better now.  I still have more to lose, but the inches aren't suddenly reappearing.  My tummy padding seems a little bigger.  Boo!  Started Round 2 of P90X, more muscle less fat I hope!

It's a PP day today, hopefully that will help get me back down, away from the 142s which I DO NOT WANT TO SEE AGAIN!  My average weight is still under 142, so as long as I go back down somewhat, I'm not going to panic.
