P90X Day 29: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

This routine is hard!  Muscle confusion at work.  Well, haven't done Ab Ripper yet, maybe I'll do it tomorrow morning...

P90X 30 day measurements (OK, actually day 29)

Did my measurements this morning, I'm down 2 inches in the bust, 1.5 inches in the waist, 1 inch in the hips, now 37-29.5-39.  Bra-wise that's a large 32DDD/E down to a small 32DDD, maybe even a 30DDD.  I'm down to 3 bras I can use.  At least two don't work because all the pushups are making my boobs plump on top, so anything that's tight at the top of the cup looks bad. Clothing size-wise that's a 6.  I wore a skirt that I hadn't worn in three years today, with almost no extra tummy showing.  Yay!

P90X Day 28: X Stretch & some of BBL's High & Tight

I accidentally did the third part of the High & Tight video, the floor work with the ankle weights.  I could definitely feel it!  Also started it, and got in a few minutes before my DD took it away, so I moved on to X Stretch.  I'm definitely getting more flexible.

P90X Day 27: Core Synergistics

A good workout, I increased my pushups again.  The form isn't so hot, so I'll have to concentrate on that instead of quantity next time around.  Didn't do the bonus round. I'll avoid salt at dinner today so that I can do my measurements tomorrow morning.

P90X Days 23-26: Rest & Yoga X

I've found after 3 rounds of P90X that Recovery week sometimes means taking a break from daily video routines. Saturday and Sunday I spent many hours shopping, so I was on my feet and walking a lot, plus I was pushing a large fully laden shopping cart on both days up the hill to my home, so I was working my glutes and triceps too!

Monday, day 26, I did Yoga for the first time this round.  Once again I skipped the portion with Warrior 3-end of vinyasas.  My younger DD wanted to move to the balance postures, so I probably skipped about 15min.  I actually did some of the Yoga Belly 7, as I have been a slacker this time with Ab Ripper, but couldn't do the ones that take up a lot of space.  I need to clear some more floor space around my mat.

I'm feeling very good, still shrinking!  I was able to wear a smaller "yoga sports bra" i.e. one without hooks in the back.  Went down from the 36C to the 34D.  Still have the 34C to aspire to, but my elder DD is currently using it...

P90X Day 20: OK, not Kenpo, I did BBL's Bum Bum

It's 35min, and I did it with my DD.  Whew!  Not easy!  Definitely built up a sweat, and worked the legs and butt.  I could definitely feel it the next day, but doing Bum Bum the day after Legs & Back was pushing it, because my legs were a little worn out.  I'll have to think about what to do in Week 5, 6, 7 on day 6

P90X Day 22: Core Synergistics

I took a rest day on Wednesday, and did Core Syn yesterday.  I think I did OK.  I stuck with 5lb, and did the middle pushups on the Prison Cell pushups.  I have to improve on those, I'm not jumping up and down.  I should definitely do more than 3.  Taking another rest day (bad!).  I'm going to take a walk tomorrow, then do Yoga. 
I'm also planning to do the BBL's High and Tight workout this weekend.

OK, this might look scary, gained 1 pound, but I haven't "gone" in a day or two, I've been trying to drink a lot, plus I can see that ab line getting longer on my stomach, so I'm not growing bigger. Maybe I'm adding a little muscle?  I'm not going to panic.  OK, I have panicked momentarily the last few days, but I keep reminding myself that I'm on track, moving forward, etc.

I spent six hours yesterday walking/shopping, so I did burn calories.  Heavy duty grocery shopping, and pushing the extremely heavy grocery cart also helped burn upper body calories (I could feel it in my triceps!)  I went off the diet for dinner, but it was still a healthy meal:

Raspberries, one container

OK, so I had potatoes and raspberries, but it's not like I had cookies or grains!  I still got a little puffy in the middle of the night, so I took some gas meds, and so I was very happy because...

Weight 147lb lost 1lb!  Yay!
It also helped that I "went" yesterday.  So far that's 11lb total.  The measuring tape continues to show shrinkage or maintains the measurements. Back to the diet today.

Dukan Diet -- thoughts on the first three weeks

I'm very happy with my progress so far, 10lb lost.  I've gone down from a size 8 to a size 6.  I'm sure the exercise I've been doing has helped it along too.  Yes, I've had to modify the diet a bit, to make sure I get some carbs right before/after a workout, but it's been carrots and beets, no fruit or grains. I've also had only one PP day a week so far, on my workout rest day.  Maybe next week which is a low-energy workout week I'll do 2 PP days.

I really feel great, a grain-free diet works for me, but it's hard to keep up on a permanent basis.  Even though I avoid wheat most of the time, I still like spelt or 100% rye bread and other products, and I'm looking forward to having them when the Consolidation phase starts (probably in late April-early May).  

I'm going to have to buy a new sports bra, I think the 32E will fit shortly.  Lucky I have a bunch of bras that were too small before, so I have something to wear as the mainstays from my size 8 days get too big.  And I don't have to spend any money, just dive into a drawer!  My measurements have gone from 32 to 30.5 underbust, and 39 to 37 bust, so I'm going from a large 32DDD/32E to a small 32DD-32DDD/32E.

BBL arrived!

Still haven't figured out a schedule, but I've checked out some of the workouts, and they do not look easy.  I tried out the Tummy Tuck routine, and it's definitely challenging!  Tomorrow I'm going to do either High & Tight or Bum Bum.  I'll try to coordinate with my DD so we can do some of the workouts together.

P90X Day 17-19: Shoulders & Arms and Legs & Back

I didn't get around to the S&A workout until 8:30 last night, but it still went well.  Upped most exercises in either weight or reps.  Skipped the Yoga, did Legs & Back today.  Increased pullups to 94 total assisted.

I didn't feel that energized, but I managed to crank out 99 pushups and 72 assisted pullups.  I still need to improve the quality of my pushups.  When I do the knees version, I go lower. BTW, yesterday was supposed to be X Stretch, but I took a rest day instead.

P90X Day 13: Kenpo X

The workout went well.  I'm looking forward to incorporating the Brazilian Butt Lift videos in to my schedule, so Kenpo won't be in the line-up as often.  It's sort of like a self-defense workout with all the punching and kicking, which makes it fun and empowering, but BBL sounds like it'll be really tough and also a lot of fun.  I'm going to order it tomorrow or Friday.

Finally! I'll have to keep it up.  I enjoyed feeling thin today, especially wearing my size 8 pants which were roomy.  Back to more fitted clothes tomorrow.

Today's a PP day.  I was supposed to do the X Stretch routine, not strenuous, but it was Parent Teacher conferences, and I got home late.

I was shocked to read the fat level in the yogurt I had today (16g), much higher than the other two (4.5g) I've been eating.  Won't be eating that brand anymore.  I also found a lemonade powder using stevia as a sweetener, so I was able to guzzle some more beverages again.

Day 17 (Mar 18)
Weight 148.5 lb lost 1lb!

Finally, some movement!  Of course, some of this is air too, but the fat pad on top of my abs is getting smaller.  I'm so happy!

BTW, did you know the abbreviation lb is short for the latin word libra?  And our measuring unit pound is from latin too, pondus.

P90X and Brazilian Butt Lift

My DD and I are going to get another Beachbody workout called Brazilian Butt Lift.  I feel a bit like I am a heretic, but I researched this, and found that quite a few women have been dissatisfied with the lower body results of P90X, and were using BBL to substitute/supplement workouts.  I wasn't dissatisfied, but I don't think I was really focusing on that anyway.  I put on weight pretty evenly, so I don't have any particular "problem areas" that I dwell on.  I want to be able to help my DD get started with BBL, so I will do some sort of hybrid workout. That's still a week or two away though.

P90X Day 11 & 12: Rest Day and Legs & Back

I decided to take it easy yesterday.  Maybe that was the right thing, because I felt really good today.  Anyway, toughed it out through L&B.  Increased my pullups by 12 (still no unassisted), to 86.  My sneakers are still slipping on the floor when I do my wall squats, which is very annoying.  I'm going to have to solve that problem soon.  Other than that, things are going well.  Still shrinking, even though the scale isn't moving.  Maybe tomorrow will be the day I go into the 140's.

P90X Day 9 & 10: Plyo and Shoulders & Arms

3:00 PM -- I did all the exercises (except for the bonus round).  I think I did better than last week, but I might have eaten too few calories so far today (2 scrambled eggs, some carrots).

8:30 PM -- Shoulders & Arms went well. I increased some weights and reps.  OK, usually you should have a day in between C&B and S&A.  I had 28 hrs.  Tomorrow, walking or Yoga, or maybe both!

P90X Day 8: Chest & Back

My favorite workout in this series!  I squeezed out 88 various pushups (and add'l pushups on knees), over 20 more than last week.  Now, I can't go terribly low, but as the weeks pass, I am able to go lower, so the number of pushups goes up a bit, but the quality is also improving.  I also used 20lb on the back flys.  It's nice to do it on a weekend, I don't feel as rushed to finish it and eat dinner.

A nice relaxing workout.  So this whole first week actually took 9 days.

P90X Day 6: Kenpo X

A bit of a struggle this first week, but I dragged myself through it. X Stretch tomorrow, then I'll double up C&B and Plyo and S&A into two days this weekend, maybe even X Stretch, then I'll try to do Yoga on Monday.  Week 3 I should get back on track.  I'm definitely looking forward to tomorrow's restful workout!

Do pushups increase your bust?

Yes, despite all statements to the contrary, they do. How do I know this? Because I gained inches in my chest as I shrank sizes. OK, it does take A LOT OF PUSHUPS. But think about it. Guys who do lots of pushups have noticeable pecs. Their chest measurements grow when they do lots of chest work. And we ladies have pecs under our boobs too.

Doing P90X in 2008, my first week I did 27 pushups of various kinds and 73 "girlie" pushups. By the end of twelve weeks, I was doing 65 assorted pushups and 71 "girlie" pushups. My chest measurement grew from 35.25 to 36, but I went down from size 6 to a 4. BTW, I did the girlie pushups after I maxed out on the no-knees, because I still could pump out some more.

I can't report what happened regarding bra size, because I was wearing the wrong band size. I was wearing a 34C at the end, but I should have been in at least a 32D.

One of the things I'm looking forward to documenting this time around is what my bra size will be at the end of this new weight loss/P90X experience. I am starting as a 32E (32DDD). I expect to go down to a 32DD, or maybe even a 30something. Here are my measurements right now:

Weight: 158lb
Bust: 39"
Underbust: 32"
At this size, I am wearing a 32E Chantelle on the loosest hook, the rest of my 32s are too tight in the band.

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 2

Day 8 (March 9, 2011):

Well, I'm not really upset about that, yesterday's cheese was salty, and I did try to drink lots of water.  Tired though, stayed up too late reading. 

Today's food:

Scrambled Eggs (2)
1/2 gigantic chicken breast parmigana (manchego cheese, pasta sauce)
baked sweet potato
Benning goat cheese
almonds pre-workout
3/4 scoop of egg white protein powder
chicken breast curry (goat's milk yogurt, curry powder) Very tasty!

I am bouncing around 150-151.  My digestive system has slowed down, and once the "accumulation" is gone, I'll be below 150.  Plus I am probably putting on some muscle with my workouts.  I'm sure it will also help that today is a PP day.  I didn't have one last week for various reasons, it works best for me to do it on a day I have only my XStretch routine.  I think I'll have another one on Monday.  I will go for a walk after work too.

Grilled chicken breast
A chicken patty from Trader Joe's, it has a few red peppers in the patty, but that's it.
Also some sheep's milk yogurt, some cheese.
 
Day 11 (March 12, 2011):
Weight 150.5 Nothing gained/lost

I was very dehydrated this morning.  I am loading up on water today.  It will start going down again next week (she says very confidently!)

Hard-boiled eggs (2) with some salt
a few baby carrots before and after my workout
3/4 scoop egg white protein powder
small piece of grilled salmon
asparagus, grilled (20 spears?)
artichoke hearts, maybe 10?

Day 12 (March 13, 2011): 
Weight 150 lb lost.5lb

I'm going to say I've now reached 150lb for good.  My clothes are definitely getting roomier.  More muscle, less fat!

a few baby carrots before my workout
3/4 scoop egg white protein powder
some goat's milk yogurt w/2 tbsp oat bran
3/4 scoop egg white protein powder

Day 13 (March 14, 2011):

I felt FANTASTIC today!  I have no idea why.  I did some crunches this morning, maybe that brought up my energy level.  Plus, I think for the first time I wasn't dehydrated today which helped my system clear out.  Hope to see some good news on the scale tomorrow morning!

Ouch!  I increased my chair-assisted pullups to 72 from the last time I did this workout in February.  Still didn't do all the exercises.  My left hamstring was feeling a little tender, so I took it easy and skipped the Siebers squats.  I also have to do something about my sneakers.  They keep sliding on my wooden floor during the wall squats.  Maybe I should get some sort of rubber mat (yoga mat?) to stand on.  Also did some Ab Ripper moves.

I guess it's Kenpo tomorrow.

P90X Day 3: Shoulders & Arms

I did this on Sunday, since I did that 1.5 hour walk on Saturday.  Doing well on the weights, lifted 15lb in my supination curls, and I'm already up to 20 reps on the right on Side Tri Rise. (My daughter was with me in this one and rocked it)

Monday & Tuesday I am not at home, so I'm not sure what I'll do Wednesday.  Probably push everything back a bit, do 2 routines on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.  Yes, if one is X Stretch, it's doable.  I like my weeks to start on Thursdays.

OK, the green beans had oil, and the arugula had some dressing, so it's not perfect, but still only protein and vegetables.  No wine, no bread basket.  We'll see what the scale says tomorrow morning!

Dukan Diet -- The Start

The Dukan Diet UK website specified that I should aspire to reach 135lb.  I don't know if this is possible anymore because of the muscle I have put on from doing P90X.  When I did the 2.5 rounds of P90X, my lowest was 143.5.  I believe that I might be able to reach 140, so that's going to be my goal.  That will be a size 4 probably.  Because I don't have that much weight to lose, I'm supposed to do 2 days of Attack, then go to the Cruise Phase.  My initial weight is 158 lb, and I'm about an 8.

P90X Day 3: Shoulders & Arms

So, first I meandered from 116th street to 59th street (1.5 hours, I shopped too).  Had a few almonds, then got some chicken for lunch.  My legs are tired from Plyo yesterday, but Shoulders & Arms should be fine later.  I will also do X Stretch today or tomorrow, as I won't be able to do the usual routines on Monday or Tuesday, So I'll have to get creative with my schedule.  Here's what I'm planning

Monday: nothing, maybe a long walk
Tuesday: nothing, maybe a long walk
Wednesday: Legs  & Back
Thursday: X Stretch
Friday: C&B
Saturday: Plyo & Shoulders & Arms

P90X Day 2: Plyo & my P90X history

This workout went very well -- all that walking in Rome for 5 days really built up my leg strength, so I was able to do almost all the exercises without modifying too much. OK, I didn't do the sports segments at the end, but I'll get to that in a few weeks. I was able to do the first Hot Foot completely.  First time since I had my foot operations in March 2010.

Background on my P90X:

I started P90X September 2008, did two rounds, and got through a good portion of the third round before going off for vacation summer 2009.  When I got back, I started a round in September 2009, but I got so wrapped up in getting my older daughter in high school, I couldn't put in the time. I had my bunions operated on in March 2010, which put me out of commission for quite a while.  I started a round again in September 2010, did about three weeks, but once again, didn't stick with it.  This time I've had enough.  I was a 4-6 in Spring 2009, now I'm an 8.  I want to fit into my regular clothes again!

Sticking to the plan

I know I can stick to the P90X plan, since I did 2.5 rounds of it in 2008-09.  I was really good about the P90X diet too.  Now, I've decided to jumpstart my weightloss using the Dukan Diet.  I was 143.5 when I finished P90X, and last week I was 158!!!  OK, so I had just returned from stuffing myself in Rome, but with all the walking, you'd think it wouldn't have been too bad.

Day one of the Dukan Diet was Tuesday March 1, day one of P90X was yesterday, Thursday, March 3.  Hoping that this blog will keep me on track
