Yay!  I got a good night's sleep last night, I went to bed early.  I woke up refreshed, and evidently well-hydrated, as my system is clearing up, so I'm hoping to get some good news tomorrow morning.  I am still shrinking according to the measuring tape.  I think I'm maxing out on liquids though today, but it does show me that I do have to up my liquids on PP days.

Sigh.  I guess I should be happy it's going down. Small extra walk to work, ran errands in the heat at lunch.  I am avoiding almonds today, so I can maximize the loss that will appear tomorrow. Unfortunately, I ate a lot of cheese, so that may be equivalent to almonds...  Forgot to add I walked an add'l 40min after work in the heat, and then ran an errand after I got home, 10min each way, return trip up my steep hill.  Went to bed early!

Wha??????? I did eat a LOT OF STEAK, so I guess the sheer weight of the food I had yesterday may have something to do with it. Plus the salsa I had with it does have sodium.  I'll keep the sodium low tonight or tomorrow so I won't be retaining so much water. Some of this is also air AND I didn't get a lot of sleep, so... It's a PP day today.  Got off the subway early and walked 30min to work.  I felt like I had a rock in my stomach, so I'm sure these extra lbs will go away tomorrow or the day after.   At lunch, I walked for 40min even though it was 86 outside and felt like 90, didn't walk too fast, and I drank 16oz of ice water to keep cool.  I wish I'd had more with me...  After work I walked 40min.  If I didn't know any better, I'd think I had some hidden wheat, but I can't figure out where/how!

My cousin's son was on a ship that was participating in NY's Fleet Week, so we went on the open tour, then spent some time chatting with him.  We went to a restaurant nearby.  I did the best I could in an Italian restaurant, so I'm not sure what was in the following dressings.  I split both of the following with my mom:

Salmon carpaccio (Lox) w/fennel dill salad and some sort of sauce/dressing

It's a PV day today again.  As usual, a gain on my first PV day after some PP days.  However, my overall average this past week was almost a pound lower, so I am very happy! Shortly before bed, I was still craving some yogurt, so I ate a spoonful instead of a serving.

What does a 30F bra size look like?

I've realized that there is some confusion as to what this really looks like, so I decided to post my first picture!  Below, I am wearing a size S shirt, so it's not too tight.  I think this is a good shot for demonstrating that a 30F bra size is NOT GINORMOUS!  At this weight, I believe I used to wear a 34B-C before, but the band was riding up, I was getting quadraboob at the top of the cups, the wire was not enclosing enough of my breast tissue on the sides, I was adjusting all the time, etc. 


This bra lets me forget that I'm wearing one.  I never adjust anything, everything stays put (it's a Panache Cleo Eleanor size 30F).

Here are two links to GOOD bra size calculators -- notice they don't ask you to add inches. 

This one you can adjust the band/cup sizes, so you can see what the "sister" sizes are

So, an A cup would be a 1-inch difference between the actual underbust and the bust measurement.  If you have any kind of cleavage you are not an A!  My younger DD has in the past worn a 34A, but today she is wearing a 30D, and she could probably wear a 28DD/E, but she doesn't need the extra support, so she can get away with it.  She is 5'3.5", and very petite!

Please visit the above links, and reply with what you are wearing right now, and what the calculators say you should be wearing.  Have fun and don't freak out!  Ebay has lots of options for $20 for bras that usually go for $50-$100.

For those of you in Australia/New Zealand, I've heard on a Ravelry (knitting) forum that bras there are terribly expensive.  Most of your compatriots try on stuff at a store so they can get the size right, then order from the UK, it's actually cheaper.

P90X Spring 2012: Week 5 Chest, Shoulders & Tris

I did the CS&T workout for Week 5 of P90X.  I increased my pushups, which makes sense, as I am 8lbs lighter than I was in Feb/Mar the last time I did it, and a few more than I did in Week 5 around this time last year.  I only did 100 reps of ARX.

Dance of joy!  It's a PP day today until dinner (my mom is coming over to watch Mad Men).  This was my original goal weight!  It's the weight I usually considered my "normal" weight, but I was also eating wheat etc., so I have to be at least 2lb less than that to be at the same place.  On another note, today I am wearing a skirt and top that I haven't work for probably over 8 years!  This is an old-fashioned skirt, as in it sits at the waist, so it does actually have to fit.  My daughter would call it a high-waisted skirt, but it's just a normal skirt, unlike those silly skirts that are "low-waisted".  What's the point of that?  A skirt is supposed to emphasize your waist.  To me a high-waisted skirt goes up past your waist towards your rib-cage.  Anyway, the skirt fits just fine everywhere, but at the waist it's snug, which means I'm a little bigger in the waist at this weight than I was before.  No muffin top when I sit up straight, but I have to keep my abs tighter than usual.  Then again, it's exercise, right?

I ate too much for dinner.  When it comes time for celebration meals, I'm going to have to do better, I kept eating cheese piece after piece.  Bad!

Another PP day today.  I didn't get enough sleep.  Still under 137, nothing to be concerned about!  I did some research on losing abdominal fat, and all the sources said that subcutaneous abdominal fat is the last to go.  Visceral fat, that hidden fat inside, goes first, which is of course good, as it's more dangerous than the fat that you see on the outside.  So you may notice that you are slimming down and your abdomen is getting smaller, yet you still have that fat pad on top of your abs.  That's OK.  You won't lose that until you are really getting into slender, lean territory. Once you start seeing 2-packs, 4-packs and 6 or even 8-packs, you've gotten rid of the internal visceral fat.  I'm wondering again about what my goal should be.  Could I be going even lower than 130?  Stay tuned.

P90X Spring 2012: Weeks 2 & 3

I forgot to post last week's Shoulders & Arms, so this post is for three workouts!  Anyway, I am getting stronger as well as lighter, so I was able to increase my reps in pushups/pullups during Chest & Back, and I was able to improve my performance in Shoulders & Arms both weeks.  I've been skimping on ARX this week, I only did about 100 reps on Friday, same for yesterday.  I'll try to bust a few more reps out tonight.  My other "workouts" have been walking, walking, and more walking.  My "rest week" is next week, so I won't be doing these two workouts for 6 weeks.  Boo!

The scale is cooperating.  It's a PP day today.  I felt puffy after the almonds, and after having cheese at home, I feel like a blimp.  I'm retaining water and I have a bunch of rolls around my waist.  EEK!  I reassured myself by getting on the scale.  Even after eating dinner, I'm only 140lb.  It's really true, the last fat to go is from the stomach!

I am still shrinking! I actually measure myself almost every day, so I'm very aware of any changes. Some of my bras are getting big -- I have to wear them on the middle hook now, and the cups actually fit better now (they were a little small but wearable).  I tried on my summer pants again, and the smallest ones now fit.  They're a little tight, but not for long, I'm sure!  My morning tea means my plumbing has cleared, so tomorrow's weight should be good!  I walked 30min after work, then I did P90X's Chest & Back yesterday.  I did some of ARX the morning before, but I didn't do the main workout until yesterday.  I did do an additional 20 crunches before C&B.

After the wine tasting, I walked to work.  I'm working today 5-12midnight, I get overtime.  Today is  PV day, so I brought my dinner.

I am still shrinking, so who cares what the scale says! Well, too many days of that won't be fun, but what's a day here or there.  Last week my numbers were mostly in the 138's, this week they're mostly in the 137's.  Progress!  This morning my pants feel roomier than ever, and no more muffin top.  Holding in my stomach using my abs is so easy now, since there's not that much extra stuff (fat) inside, just what actually belongs there!

ETA:  I forgot, I had 4 sips of red wine at a wine tasting.

Dance of joy!!!!! I am still finding it hard to believe I'm at this weight because I just never thought I could get this low again.  I had no idea all this fat was inside me!  True, I'm also losing some from the outside, but my abdomen is getting flatter and flatter (and the ab routines are helping too!)  I don't get a muffin-top in my 4s anymore, they are just the right size.  I tried on some size 2 BR pants that I got on super sale months ago, just in case.  I'm not sure they're doable.  They're a little small, and I'm not sure I'll shrink that much more, but what do I know?  Obviously I've been wrong before.

I'm doing a PP day today until dinner w/Mom, when I will have a forbidden rye round w/butter, and some veggies.  I am so happy with my progress, I'm going to take the bounce in the scale tomorrow.  I am feeling great right now, but I am not falling off the bandwagon very far, back to PP tomorrow.  I ran out of my fiber, so I may have to have some oat bran to tide me over until the shipment arrives Thursday or Friday.

No change is better than a gain.  I'm still about one pound lighter than I was last week, so ...  I tried on my winter 4's, and they were almost perfect (just a little snug).  Too bad the weather's too warm to wear them!  Did Shoulders & Arms of P90X today.

Lalalalala! Still going down! It's a PV day today. However, I have major pain in my left foot centered around my big and second toes.  It's really interfering with my walking.  Could it be gout?  Gout can supposedly flare up when the body is excessively acidic.  My levels of acid are probably way up, as I have been doing 3PP a week for the last 3 weeks.  I hate cutting my great progress short, so I found a home remedy online that I will try out this evening. I will also eat alkaline veggies this weekend. I'm feeling puffy this evening, sodium?  The scale won't be kind!

How long should my Consolidation be?

I started Dukan the first time in March 2011, weighing in at 158lb (71.8kg).  I got near my goal/TW, but never quite reached it, had some half-baked consolidation where I wasn't particularly faithful, and was able to stay within 140-143 from August through November, then put on some pounds in late 2011. 

I started Dukan 2.0 the last week in December 2011, weighing in at 147.5lb.  If I decide to go to consolidation at 133lb (60.5kg), these are my choices:

Following 158lb (71.8kg) start weight:

Loss = 25lb x 5 days per = 125 days
(or = 11.37kg x 10 days per = 114 days)

Following 147.5lb (67kg) start weight:

Loss = 14.5lb x 5 days per = 72 days
(or = 6.6kg x 10 days per = 66 days)

The original Dukan was 10 days per kg lost, I am tempted to follow that number just because it's a little shorter!  Anyway, where do you think I should start counting? 158lb or 147.5lb?

I didn't drink enough yesterday, but since I had peas which would have made me post a gain, I'm happy.  Today is a PP day.  I got off the subway one stop early this morning, then ran errands at lunch, and after work walked 50 blocks, about 75 minutes. It's Week 2 for this round of P90X, so I did the Chest & Back workout.

Gaining weight as we get older

There's a prevalent misconception, especially in the U.S., that as you get older, you're supposed to gain a little weight.  A Dear Friend of mine has said this to me more than once, when I was bemoaning my extra pounds and talking about losing weight in the last few years.  Is this because people just want to explain away their own extra pounds?  If you're supposed to gain weight as you age, it's pointless to try to lose the weight, so no need to try to do anything about it!  About a month ago, I told DF that I had gotten down to 138.5lb, and she was very surprised, as in "You mean you actually are only 5lb away from your weight 15-20yrs ago?"  She didn't SAY that, but that was the subtext I was hearing.  In fact, when I started Dukan, I wasn't sure I could get back down to my true weight of approx. 135, now that I was "older".  However, I did have a hidden advantage.  My mother's side of the family all live in Finland, and a significant number of my female relatives around my age (49yo, +/-5 yrs) are in great shape.  They all do some sort of exercise (pilates, dance, biking), and they have certainly not put on the mysterious extra poundage as they age, so if they could look great, I could too.

So here I am at 137.75lb, with 3-8lbs to go.  My "normal weight" in my 20's & 30's was 125-135. Have I lost all my fat and am I a stick figure?  No!  I look fit, but I still have that annoying padding on my abdomen (which I'm hoping to finally eliminate in the next few weeks).  This means that I've lost 20lb of fat, and a lot of that was unhealthy visceral fat.  For those of you that look at the Dukan True Weight and wonder if it's too low, it's not!  Depending on your situation, it might even be a little higher than what your goal weight could/might be.  Everyone should decide on their own, of course, what their goal weight should be, but don't tell yourself that you're older now, and it's impossible to be at the weight you were at when you were younger.  Not true!  A few weeks ago, I put in a lower start weight and "average" weight on the Dukan website, but everything else the same, and I got a lower TW, so I'm going to see how I feel in the 130-133 range.

Dukan Diet Restart -- Cruise Week 18 Tuesday

If I put on muscle and don't go below 138.25 I'm going to cry!  I do seem to be shrinking, so I'll try to be patient.  I actually did some research on the weight of some fitness models my height,  to see what a good range is for a woman with a significant amount of muscle.  At 5'7" (yes, I'm 5'6.75", but close enough!) they ranged from 120-135lb.  Of course it all depends on your frame, but it looks like 130-135lb would be reasonable for me.  I did weigh 126 when I was swimming a lot, but 120 is definitely out!  I did P90X yesterday, and also walked 45min plus ran errands at lunch.  This morning it was raining, and I thought it was raining at lunch (just really cloudy), but it was all clear after work, so I did a power walk for 30min. I also did another 100 reps of ARX.

P90X Spring 2012: Week 1 Shoulders & Arms and ARX

Yesterday, I did 3 of the ARX moves before the workout as the "warmup", as I was running low on time, then did Shoulders & Arms.  Some of the weights that I used weren't quite as high as the last time I did, but pretty respectable (5-8-10-13.5-15).  I'm going to try to go to 20lb with the curls next week. Since I'm so much lighter, I was able to increase my chair dips.

This morning, I did several more of the ARX exercises, and I'll do the last few this evening.  I was definitely a little sore from Saturday's ARX, I don't think I would have been able to do even half of ARX yesterday. Total ARX reps over 24 hrs was around 250, which was less than Sunday, but considering how sore I was, it's a miracle!

I'm not sure what other routines I'm going to do this week, as I have to straighten up tonight in preparation for my Mom visiting tomorrow, and the new week starts Thursday already!  I did do some leg lifts and sissy squats today to compensate for not doing a lower-body workout this week.

No change is good! A PP day today.  I was drinking ice water like crazy at work, which was bringing my body temperature down and forcing my metabolism to work faster.  I had about 80oz in two hours, too much!  My head started feeling weird, and I think I had the beginning of what's called "water intoxication".  I ended up having a small packet of salt to get some sodium, and then luckily I had pork roast with me, which has lots of potassium, so I ate that.  I didn't drink more water until 4 hours later, and I took it slow.  Of course, it could be that I had a bit of a panic attack, but either way, I wasn't being smart, and it was definitely a wake-up call.  Lucky I was sitting at my desk and near people I knew, just in case.
