CHEAT DAY!

Tim Ferriss' 4-Hour Body follows a PV style meal plan for 6 days a week, with a cheat meal/day, really a binge on day 7.  He also includes a host of things that help minimize/eliminate any damage.  Here's what happened today:

Day 109 (June 18, 2011)
Weight, 141.5, gained 1lb

First, before breakfast:

Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) ("ALA helps you store the carbohydrates you eat in muscle or in your liver as opposed to in fat"-4HB)

Allicin 6000 Garlic 650mg (has "the ability to inhibit fat regain" 4HB)

Ate a protein breakfast:
1.25 whey powder (I am on dairy, so I had some of the $37 mistake can of whey I bought instead of egg white powder 2 weeks ago) (137.5 cal)
Colonix

Swim 10min.  I wore a bikini, size small bottoms, and top size 30E(?).  Felt great!

Before lunch:

Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) ("ALA helps you store the carbohydrates you eat in muscle or in your liver as oppposed to in fat"-4HB)
Allicin 6000 Garlic 650mg (has "the ability to inhibit fat regain" 4HB)

Lunch at 1:00pm:
Hamburger w/onions (350 cal?)
Curly fries (500 cal?)
Beverage (25cal) w/lemon -- lemon lowers glycemic response.  OK, it's supposed to be fresh, but I'll have fresh later today.

Swim about 10min, 90min after lunch.  I didn't feel like I was bloated from yesterday, or the hamburger bun or curly fries.  Yay!
At 2:30pm, 1 small scoop of mint chip ice cream (160 cal)

Snack at the LIRR station going home 3:30pm was a new melted Caramel Milky Way Bar (250 cal)

From 4:45pm-5:45pm:
A vanilla coke (20oz) (260 cal)
1 York peppermint patty (140 cal)
7 Samoa cookies (LOOVE THESE) (490cal)
1 Lemon Girl Scout cookie (don't like it) (40cal)
1 Thin Mint Girl Scout cookie (also not a fan) (55cal)

2x Target mozzarella string cheese (120cal)

6:30pm:
1 bottle of Mexican Coke (150cal)
1 bag of pretzels (275cal)

Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) ("ALA helps you store the carbohydrates you eat in muscle or in your liver as oppposed to in fat"-4HB)
Allicin 6000 Garlic 650mg (has "the ability to inhibit fat regain" 4HB)

9:00pm
1 slice of real NY pizza (heavenly!) (350 cal)
1 can of coke (140 cal)

20min walk home, pushing full shopping cart up hill

10:00pm
1 6oz glass of "lemonade" (1 lemon squeezed, water, stevia)
Entenmann's crumb donut (250cal)
Entenmann's old fashioned donut (230cal)
2x Thomas' English muffin (240cal total)
w/margarine.

OK, I'm stuffed!  Let's see, I had at least 137.5+875+160+250+995+120+490+425+800=4,252.5 calories!!!!  I don't think I'm going to have any cravings before my vacation in 2 weeks!

Before I go to bed, at around 11:30, I still have to do 90sec of air squats, and another dose of ALA and Garlic.  Fascinated to see what the scale shows in a few days!

Dukan Diet -- Cruise Week 8 Sunday & Easter "binge"

Day 54 (April 24, 2011)
Weight: 143.75lb, gained .75

Well, it wasn't much of a binge.  Here's what I had/did, utilizing Tim Ferriss' 4-Hour Body (4HB) tips:

1.25 scoop e.w. protein powder
Garlic extract pill -- "inhibits fat regain" (4HB)
Colonix -- insoluble fiber
Grapefruit juice (1 cup?) has a "glucose-lowering effect", so it seems to inhibit fat gain, but also prevents fat loss, so not good when you're trying to lose... (4HB)
Tea -- caffeine promotes a quick trip through the digestive tract (4HB)

THE BINGE -11:45-12:15
I walked to the subway, so that was more than 90 seconds of pre-binge exercise at 11:30 (4HB)
about 50 jelly beans -- I had 3 different kinds, so I had to try 2-3 of each color of each bag
1 starburst -- selected because it had fat, which evidently helps decrease sugar overload (4HB)
1/2 snack bag of almonds
Maybe 5 corn chips, 2 scoops into guacamole
90 minutes after I ate the jellybeans, I did 90 seconds of squats and wall pushups at 1:15(4HB)
So basically I had maybe 500 calories of jellybeans...

Lunch at 2PM was roast beef, salad, green beans, and 1 small meringue. That's it!  Dinner so far is chicken breast w/salsa.  I did not have a sugar crash, so far so good. I'll have some more veggies, and some yogurt, and some cheese.  We'll see what the scale shows tomorrow!

Dukan Diet and Tim Ferriss' Slow Carb Diet

For those of you who are interested in where the 30g protein within 30min of waking up comes from, it's from Tim Ferriss' "The 4-Hour Body", which I bought earlier in the week.  He also has a protein/vegetable style diet called "The Slow-Carb Diet", but it includes a cheat day every week, and I'm not ready to do that.  I figured the 30g within 30 was easy to incorporate into Dukan.  I will follow Ferriss' methods to lessen the damage from bingeing, as I'm doing the Easter thing.

After reading Ferriss' book (the diet sections), I still feel Dukan will be better/easier for me to follow than Ferriss'. I like the Consolidation phase, but I'm probably going to be low/no gluten and low/no sugar thanks to Ferriss and Gary Taubes' NYT article, and Lustig's 90-min video, "Sugar -- The Bitter Truth".
