Picked up a rental car at the Westchester County Airport, then drove up to the college that my elder daughter was accepted to off the waitlist. I felt she'd be able to overcome some negative impressions she had about the school, and I was successful! She's not 100% sure she wants to go to this school, but she's much closer to saying yes. I hope she does. The town is fantastic, and we had a nice walk around the campus, a much better tour than we had originally. I managed to stay dairy/wheat free I think. I did order another beer at dinner, but thought better of it, and only had a few sips. Plus, it was a light-colored beer, and looked suspiciously wheaty. So, it was not a low-calorie day! Got home and watched "The Normal Heart". Very powerful but depressing movie. My two daughters watched it as well, which I think was very important (although it was rather sexually graphic!) Thought about my dear friends Richard and Bobby who died from AIDS, 21 and 13 years ago. Kisses to you, my boys.

Just stayed at home. I was supposed to get together with a friend, but he didn't contact me until after 3 the same day. I hate that! I was eventually "told" can we meet at 7:30? Uh, sure, but I'll have to leave by 9-9:30 because it takes an hour to get home, and I had a lot of driving to do on Sunday and wanted to be well rested. And then after all that, never mind because he was tense, and he just wanted to relax. Yes, thanks, and I actually had said no to another friend who invited me to go to Fleet week on Saturday. No more same-day plans!

It was a rainy day today, so I wasn't able to walk at lunch or after work. I'm bloated thanks to the bottle of ale I had yesterday, but it has other advantages, so I just make sure I don't have it around the time of a weigh in. Therefore, seeing this one pound gain isn't that stressful. My average weight has been steadily declining in the last two weeks, so a little bounce up isn't affecting the big picture.

It doesn't look like I'm going to win my DietBet. I can still weigh in tomorrow, but I would have to lose 1.75lb by tomorrow! Oh well, I was pretty sure this wasn't going to work out. Still, I've lost 7.5lb in 5 weeks, can't complain! Bad news is I forgot the turkey sausage probably has a lot of sodium, so making the weigh-in tomorrow isn't likely either.

Only 1.5lb left to lose by tomorrow or Wednesday morning. Another PP day today (mostly). I was waffling between having 2 slices of bacon, and a ham omelet, but fortunately I went with the bacon. Turns out the ham would have been several hundred calories more, and the sodium level would have been 3-4x as high. Wow, I had no idea! I have to make sure I have a low sodium dinner to help flush out the extra fluid I am retaining. I may have a hamburger with salsa this evening, which would break my PP day, but it would be lower sodium. That's better than having ketchup or bbq sauce, as the carbs are negligible. My daughter made fried plantains, I had 3. I calculated how many carbs I've had today, they are still under 50
For me, low and no-carbing definitely works for short-term weight loss. It seems easier for me to stick to the low/no-carbing when it has a label such as "Dukan Diet". Maybe because it has instructions and food lists I can follow, as opposed to figure it out yourself. Now I'll just have to get better at maintaining.
My cousin and I have agreed to get a cheap scale to have at our country house. Usually we both pack on pounds there, as there isn't a lot of exercise opportunities. If it's very warm, we go swimming frequently during the day in the lake that is down the path, but if it's cold, it's only a dip in the morning and several short swims/dips while we use the sauna, usually every other day. Now that I think about it, that short dip in chilly water helps rev up the metabolism, so I'll try to stay in the water longer each morning. Having the scale will also give us some feedback as to how far off track we are. It'll be easier to say no to seconds if I've seen a scary number on the scale.

So I won $44.26, so I've netted $19.26! Well, it's not much, but since this next one is going to be even harder to reach, I'm happy with anything.
I had three ales last night. I'm not feeling too bad this morning, but I'm not going to make a habit of it.
I now weigh what I did on January 1, and the last time I weighed this was February 28. I could have reached my goal long ago. At least this time I decided to make a change before I reached 150lb. I had promised myself that I would never weigh more than that again, and still exceeded that number in December 2012, so I'm glad my "red line" number is getting lower. Last time I weighed 150lb or higher was August 2013. Let's see if I can make 140lb my new red line later this year.
I ate way too many cashews, and the manchego cheese is salty as well.

I started another DietBet. I was going to weigh in with a new number, slightly higher at 143.8 having had some water, but then the website asked if I wanted to use the same weight that was processed the day before, and I stupidly said yes. I had wanted to use my new digital scale, but now I'm stuck using my doctor's scale again. Why is that a problem? The digital scale goes up and down in increments of .2lb, while the doctor's scale has increments of .25.
I weighed in at 143lb today (my goal weight), and was verified a winner, so after everyone else has weighed in, I'll see how much money I get. The minimum is the amount of the bet (in this case $25), so at least I don't lose my money.

Another small loss. I had three mugs of tea today. Again I was hungry before lunch, so I'm definitely going to have bacon with my scrambled eggs next week.
I've also decided to do a short course of Dukan the next few weeks. That's probably the only way I might be able to reach my DietBet goals of losing 2lb by Tuesday and 5.25lb in 10 days. I'll have 2-3 PP (pure protein) days the next few days as an attack phase. I'm also going to make a galette tomorrow. I haven't had one before, as I never used oat bran, I used another form of fiber when I did Dukan before. I believe I have a can of oat bran in a cabinet that I can use. Part of the reason I got tired of Dukan was I just didn't want to have no fruit or carrots for months on end. I've been stuffing myself with carrots and have had an apple a day for months, so I think I can do without for a few weeks to get back on track.

It's still inching down. The omelet is tasty, but I'm hungry before lunch. The fat in the links is probably keeping me satisfied longer. I may move to bacon next week. I have to reach 143lb by Tuesday! It's not looking good, since it's also raining the next few days, and I won't be able to get my walks in.

Okay, so the scale is moving down. I'm going to make omelets at home -- saves money, and calories. I ate a second serving of goat yogurt, but at 120cals, that's still 200 total calories less for the day without the pork links/patties, and a lot less sodium. We shall see tomorrow...

Argh! Now I have to lose 4lb by next Tuesday! Yes, it could be mostly water and intestinal matter, but it's stressing me out! I don't like to lose money, and as for the second DietBet, I now have two weeks to lose 7.25lb. I just have to stay focused, and hope this will all even out in the next few days, if I eat super clean. I am also considering moving to omelets, so the salt/whatever from the pork links don't cause problems, and maybe lose a few of those extra calories.

See? I knew those extra carbs would show up on the scale. And after I ate the wings, I realized the salt is going to punish me on the scale tomorrow too. So more days of crummy numbers. I may have to start measuring myself so I can see there is improvement, if the scale is being contrary. Right now I have to lose 2.75lb by next Tuesday!

Walked around the UWS. I had a gluten-free apple spice muffin, the size of a regular (smallish) cupcake, but in hindsight, I can't remember if it had dairy, and I suspect there was something else in it that's causing my system to slow to a crawl, which means my weight is going to stagnate again! I have to be more careful. Fortunately I have a week before I have to have my official weigh-in for my first DietBet. The Pure bar has only 7 ingredients, but it still has a higher amount of carbs than I'm used to, so that'll be reflected on the scale too. :(

Walks: lunchtime: 2.25mi; afternoon: 1.61mi

Bacon (4oz)
Goat yogurt
Apple
Goat yogurt
Apple
Costco mesquite chicken wings (7)
Carrots (4)
Marshmallows (2)
Belgian Ale
Walnuts
Chicken tenders w/vindaloo sauce
Artichoke hearts w/mayo
My first walk included pushing a heavy shopping cart up my hill, so I expended more energy than just the 2.25 miles. An unintentional arm workout. On way back from the second errand, walking up the hill for the third time today was tiring, I definitely could feel it in my legs and butt! Of course, the steps indicated are always less than I really walked, since I don't carry around my phone with me every time I go to another room. Maybe I'll get a FitBit one day...
One of my children hid a bag of marshmallows in the kitchen, which I accidentally found. Fortunately it was almost empty, I only had two.
I think my system is finally clearing out. I hope that's reflected on the scale tomorrow.

I had a 90 minute lunch today, so I walked to Trader Joe's, bought 6 tubs of goat yogurt and 2lb of carrots, and carried them back to work. I was able to leave 3 of them in the office fridge over the weekend, so I only had to carry the 3 remaining tubs and the carrots on my way home. I was sure I'd get tired sooner, but I was able to walk 36 blocks before I decided to take the subway the rest of the way.

I was having some serious stomach/intestinal pains this morning on my walk, but I just kept walking as the pain slowly moved downward. I wonder if it's because I didn't have anything to eat after I finished my ale yesterday evening. Anyway, the sodium in the hot dogs yesterday wasn't helping my cause on the scale today, so I have to be patient some more.
The rain stopped, it was a lovely 75 degrees. The weather was so beautiful I bought myself a new hat!

It was raining all day, but I did manage to squeeze in some exercise by walking around each floor of my company's office. I walked down 14 flights, then walked around each floor and climbed up to the next floor, and walked around that one. It took me around 30 minutes. I'm not sure that my step count is correct, it doesn't seem to record going up stairs as dependably as walking. A co-worker had told me she has done that on rainy days, but I was always a little hesitant. However, it wasn't like I was walk around the same floor over and over, passing the same people who start looking at me like I'm crazy!
I started a third DietBet today. I weighed in higher than my second DietBet, so really if I can win my second one, I'll already be below my third DietBet target! This third DietBet is hosted by Chris & Heidi Powell, from "Extreme Weight Loss", so far 2,802 players are participating in this one (my first one has 963 players, and the second one has 144). It's rather fun to have them comment on my exercise updates!
